4.24.1 UV radiation
  Q7 Y+ B1 P& T& KLuminaires designed for tungsten halogen lamps and luminaires designed for metal halide( `/ p: o. N; }. D/ b
lamps shall not emit excessive UV radiation when used with the lamp. For self-shielded lamps,
, Q2 H3 s& l  G; M; m0 Y9 |this requirement is met by the lamp design.& k- M7 u: g3 I$ }4 ?/ j
For tungsten halogen lamps and most metal halide lamps, when needing a protective shield,5 E8 V+ w9 }0 ^  P9 M8 R
any glass will reduce the UV radiation to a sufficiently low level.2 T6 {: g" x1 z6 @  |% S  S: X  Q, \
NOTE 1: See 60432-3 and IEC 62035 for lamp marking
9 l# x3 j" c9 P8 SFor some metal halide lamps, emitting a high level of radiation, Annex P describes methods to
$ Q. G% E$ b4 t! O0 a  rprovide adequate shielding for UV radiation by the luminaire.
% o0 c( M/ W  `# [NOTE 2; See Annex P, procedure A or B for method of calculation to provide effective radiation shielding.
0 s& H' t" P" ~8 y0 P3 }+ h8 H+ z2 W- g4 i8 k
4.24.2 Retinal Blue Light Hazard
% m! R& X5 ~  `$ I  N. L) qLuminaires with integrated LED’s or with LED modules shall be assessed according to IEC/TR
- c, |; m  c8 |3 G4 I! Y! l: D62778 “Application of IEC 62471 to light sources and luminaires for the assessment of blue
) c2 x1 V- X. @light hazard”.# k" S% I' B* U1 _3 @
The use of LED light sources with a blue light risk group rating greater than RG2 is not
0 A( {1 m; I+ p2 y0 c% }4 Gexpected. Additional more onerous requirements for the management of these types of light
% g- ]; N5 l) {, p1 Qsources would need to be applied.+ K/ `  n. c) z3 R' I6 m1 ~
Note 1: Requirements for luminaires using RG3 LED light sources are not yet developed because these products
4 Z) n& o8 a: B/ \/ p5 Oare not generally available on the market. Further requirements will be developed if needed in the future.% y1 r; ^: H/ r9 n& \8 y  w
For luminaires using an LED light source having an RG0 or RG1 rating in accordance with* o& E: r" z5 G# T9 b/ T* K! ~
IEC/TR 62778 rating based on 200mm, 0.011rad measurement), or which have been assessed
% I1 t& b! [$ P/ `6 t7 _1 Zas RG0 or RG1 fully assembled for use, under the same conditions, no additional requirements: b2 }6 T" ^, J+ c
apply.* J$ Z, I  h& w6 V
For luminaires having a Risk Group 1/2 (Ethr) boundary condition in accordance with IEC/TR
0 q7 n$ |8 s& F& v# O62778 the following requirements shall apply:
: t4 D) T* B: W: ^  F! _  ia) For fixed mounted luminaires, an additional assessment according to IEC/TR 62778 shall be
/ O, x- A# d7 Y( z) Lmade to find the distance Xm between luminaire and the borderline between RG2 and RG1.
0 _# A, g0 @# ?0 D& ?" b8 i/ MThe luminaire shall be marked and have instructions according to 3.2.23 of this standard.1 S; i3 O! m8 G
b) Portable and hand held luminaires exceeding RG1 at 200mm (0.011rad measurement), are" J( J' p$ t4 b/ T0 U8 u! M5 {: L
required to be marked according to subclause 3.2.23 of this standard." U8 C3 h& r: v) ^. Y+ @6 D# C
Note 2: Normally details of the Risk Group Classification should be available from the manufacture of the LED light, s4 J8 `" x7 |0 w
source.; ]3 N# g* K6 _4 `5 ^) a; |% K
Note 3 : In some luminaire designs e.g. luminaires with integral LED light sources, it may be necessary for the
; o+ \/ _. R; ]; l: }2 L2 g/ F, ecomplete luminaire to be tested.
# |, S; X7 b) B7 N/ Q7 R' f4 Z+ a; ZNote 4 : The building of discreet LED’s into extended arrays or the application of additional optics does not increase
# w, v" t4 O" k4 |the Risk Group Category of the basic LED light source.
6 i/ C0 K, Z( H% q7 C& ONote 5 : The manufacturers declared photometric data for the luminaire may be used as the basis for the
. |( S3 i$ r6 E$ D" V- hassessment detailed under item ‘a’.$ H' {2 I: D: {1 M
Portable luminaires for children, covered by IEC60598-2-10, and mains socket-outlet
4 K, O$ ~. a3 f' l4 tnightlights, covered by IEC60598-2-12, shall not exceed RG1 at 200mm (0.011rad
0 @8 p8 i4 I/ M# Wmeasurement)
! ]9 O0 W' H6 F6 H* ~Note 6: Future amendments specific to IEC60598-2-10 and IEC60598-2-12 in this respect will follow.$ C9 H9 C  J; k9 ~1 r  Y
