CEE Recommendation n. 9 “Corrosion of current-carrying parts” may be applied to judge whether a current-carrying part is resistant to corrosion .; c0 H( [; O; O1 Z
It is quoted in CB Bulletin No. 41 (September 1981).
& u7 X  L- L' E3 i0 H) p+ PIn the following, for convenience, is reported a part of it:6 j( g5 s9 t% t6 Z3 T. b' {' B
RECOMMENDED TEXT, SCREWS, CURRENT-CARRYING PARTS AND CONNECTIONS.
  n4 b$ {  z0 F5 Va) Current-carrying parts and parts of terminals shall be of a metal having, under the conditions occurring in the equipment, adequate mechanical strength and resistance to corrosion.
; B% U( R. |& r) @- a! OCompliance is checked by inspection and, if necessary, by measurement and by chemical analysis.
, b8 l/ D2 N6 N* x& T' IAfter all the tests of the relevant specification, the current-carrying parts and parts of terminals shall show no appreciable deformation.$ |" X# V( P- D, X& U+ U5 a7 a
Examples of suitable metals, when used within the permissible temperature range and under normal conditions of chemical pollution, are:% j% U4 M7 @- ]2 I8 D
- copper,
! h0 @  S- E' f' R1 `- an alloy containing at least 58% copper for parts that are worked cold or at least 50% copper for other parts,9 w4 P3 L/ n; Z) e) I# v
- stainless steel containing at least 13% chromium and not more than 0,09% carbon,
3 a* q* n2 U/ v2 g3 c8 q3 i/ e. [- steel provided with an electroplated coating of zinc according to ISO Publication 2081-1973, the coating having a thickness of at least:6 a/ `8 P5 p4 h' K9 B5 l/ A
* 5 T ISO grade “1 mild” for ordinary equipment,  W/ p7 c) o8 l1 Q& _8 L
* 12 T ISO grade “2 moderate” for jet-proof and splash-proof equipment,
# J  f3 m2 Y9 a! |/ v0 ~6 ^7 K6 r- n* 25 T ISO grade “3 severe” for jet-proof and watertight equipment.. p9 O- `$ w8 j- ]/ J
- steel provided with an electroplated coating of nickel plus chromium according to ISO Publication 1456-1974, the coating having a thickness at least equal to that specified for:4 S: K* q  D/ M8 _
* service condition no. 2 for ordinary equipment,
% Y5 ]% O& e) `* I* service condition no. 3 for drip-proof and splash-proof equipment,0 ]  a" w8 ~$ r" v" T3 t; `* S8 u
* service condition no. 4 for jet-proof and watertight equipment.8 j" s" O( Y, P/ z3 _4 _
- Aluminium and its alloys, provided special measures are taken for removing, where necessary, the oxide layer, for obtaining a sufficient and durable contact pressure and for ensuring that the point of connection withstands the corrosion test specified;- u! D% p" ]/ [
however, until a suitable corrosion test and an electrical performance test are available, aluminium and its alloys should preferably not be used for current-carrying parts and terminals within the equipment.& r9 ^) f; x3 L6 [2 M4 D  J
Zinc and other metals which are soft or liable to creep are not considered to be suitable for current-carrying parts and terminals .3 @# e4 ^+ L2 H
The thickness of the electroplated coatings on steel may be determined by the magnetic method described in ISO Publication 2178-1972, or by microscopical* \) l) P5 X5 q2 D6 c
measurement described in ISO Publication 1463-1973.
: I8 Y1 X2 f! O2 i- _* {8 \: jb) Under moist conditions, metals showing a great difference of electrochemical potential with respect to each other shall not be used in contact with each other .
