The product in question is a power supply to IEC/EN 60950 with an internal Battery Back Up$ U3 h+ L& F9 v2 } T! J2 n; @2 i
Unit (BBU). The BBU provides 170Vdc, which is connected to the “output” of the mainsrectifier; F- L8 C- y q/ b; l/ n0 u4 s
bridge. The question is related to the backfeed protection to prevent potential risk of
' A2 ]2 P4 p& ^electric shock from being present on the mains supply terminals during interruption of the+ m9 B8 J9 W. c
primary power or removal of the plugs from its socket.7 I7 P5 ?; ]/ V
Different interpretations have been experienced, and we are looking forward to a consensus.

standard and may not be applicable outside CENELEC. EN 50091-1 specifies requirements for
2 l9 x4 p [7 d z2 `+ L9 tbackfeed protection. Sub clause 2.1.5 states that such switching device shall be of an all pole2 C% g3 l6 a+ [7 C6 ~1 B$ r
type having an air gap in each pole in accordance with EN 60950 Table 5 – Minimum- c, A& m4 T( G& E
clearances in secondary circuits and using the column headed “circuits not subjected to/ U% Z M7 X7 { { o( j
transient overvoltage” – for reinforced insulation at the working voltage that is backfed (in this0 ]0 B! J# T4 t2 S" T

According to sub clause 2.2.6 (IEC 60950), it is likely to apply reinforced insulation between* q! k# v, X3 c, Q
unearthed hazardous voltage secondary circuit and unearthed accessible parts.
