Question: The appliance for purifying water is equipped with an UV lamp (with its
$ q0 w% e8 l; K- J+ u6 e2 Jaccessories). The unit can be used with or without a constant water flowing (in* J% w. V5 g! o) {# T
accordance with the manual instructions). What should be the temperature of
: c7 M8 n3 w$ E6 Pthe water during the thermal tests?; n( `' V& L" N* B8 E$ T9 |3 G
Decision: The applicable standard is IEC/EN 60335-1. The thermal tests have to be- b% H' n+ l' g
carried out according to clause 11 (heating) and clause 19 (abnormal7 k' n7 J9 n& X: r& G5 w/ @' j
conditions) of IEC/EN 60335-1. If according to the manual instructions the/ n4 J$ D" w! O7 r1 v' f5 H$ I; K" r
appliance can be used without water flowing, we have to consider this situation+ H; Q# [9 I& q" E, v: l
as worst case: all tests have to be performed without water flowing. At the
- x* E" Z. h& x0 c$ Ubeginning of the tests, the water shall be at room temperature (25°C). If the
. C6 \! z7 W7 L# H- K- z( }& w# y/ Iappliance is provided for use with water flowing only, the heating test (clause/ C. z- S6 X) y6 `7 ~! u
11) shall be started with water at room temperature (25°C) but flowing. For the
m2 j; Q0 g, [1 mabnormal conditions test (clause 19), the water flowing has to be stopped3 A* N- p6 g9 r# X$ [
unless there is a monitoring circuit to switch off the appliance in case of water* J1 v4 m2 W( U! i
flow interruption. At the beginning of the test the water shall be at room( G$ x: T! Q; t9 z
temperature (25°C).
