Glow Wire

Glow-wire test simulates the effect of thermal stresses which may be produced by heat sources such as glowing elements or overloaded resistors, for short periods to assess by a simulation technique the fire hazard. % k1 f) y1 q# p% K6 X
2.    Scope
$ Y  k) Q% t0 P/ O+ OGlow-wire test is applicable to electrical equipment, its sub-assemblies and components and to solid electrical insulating materials.

3.    Specimen & u  S2 M! u* [6 G6 y' V
If the test cannot be made on the complete sample, a suitable part may be cut from it. Unless otherwise specified in the relevant specification, the test is made on one specimen.  In case of doubt with regard to the results of the test, the test is repeated on two further specimens.  4 b9 S& L" C0 D2 v! 4.    Preconditioning                                + G/ E) i: ?8 i7 Q* c) u
           The specimen, the white pinewood board and the tissue paper are stored for 24h in an atmosphere having a temperature 15°C ~ 35°C, and relative humidity 45% ~75% before starting the test.! M. F- @8 e, h! F' D$ H
5.    Test procedure
) V/ b6 s# d$ D     * p, B' o0 q  t
5.1    A piece of flat smooth white pinewood board, approximately 10mm thick covered with a wrapping tissue, is positioned at a distance of 200+/-5mm below the place where the glow-wire tip is applied to the specimen.0 D7 l# G# S8 b

5.2    The specimen is positioned on specimen holder so that the surface of specimen in contact with the glow-wire tip is vertical. Keep the tip of glow-wire can only press into specimen 7 mm.& v5 P; O* s  K/ s! E' S

The manual carriage shall be so designed that glow-wire applies a force of 1+/-0.2N to the specimen.

5.3    Turn on the power supply switch.  Adjust the current by the adjust knob to set the glow-wire temp. as specified.  When the glow-wire temperature reached the setting value and maintaining at least 60s, the glow-wire is ready for test.

) h4 T! N! Q$ E9 l5.4    Unless otherwise specified in the relevant specification the value of duration ta of application of glow-wire shall be set to 30s using the relevant timer.

5.5    The specimen is move into contact with the tip of the glow-wire meanwhile the timer (left) start a record for 30s.

5.6    After the glow-wire is applied to the specimen for 30s, the specimen shall be removed back to the left. In case of ignition of the specimen when flame distinguishes push the relevant button and pay attention to observe and record:

% v; J3 P( Z+ [, O3 V$ E•    The duration from the beginning of tip application up to the time at which the specimen ignites.

( C" E( P2 J4 z# Q& v% i; O' L•    The duration (Te) from the beginning of tip application up to the time when the flames extinguishes during or after the period of application.

•    The maximum height of any flame rounded off to within the next 5mm but disregarding the start of the ignition, which may  produce a high flame for a period of approximately 1s.  - m9 @6 X5 q  q# Q8 \

•    Any burning of the tissue paper or any scorching of the pinewood board.  ' S. ~; b( x/ U# g- D$ M

5.7    Make sure the current adjusting wheel back to zero position, and turn the power off to finish the test.  Then use the fan to extract the smoking.

. h5 z1 R: Y! J: eIf one of the following situations applies, the specimen is considered to have satisfactorily withstood the glow-wire test.  ; }- g. `: R- ]3 h( I) ]
•    There is no flame and no glowing of the specimen.  # Z8 q% K# A8 E; j$ T: n' a
  P2 [% a. s2 p- a" G5 |) V$ i
•    Flames or glowing of the specimen and the layer below extinguishes within 30s after the removal of glow-wire, that is te 小于等于 ta +30s, There is neither ignition of the wrapping tissue nor scorching of the pinewood board.

7.1    After each test, it is necessary to clean any residue of previously tested material from the tip of the glow-wire, for example by means of a steel wire brush.  5 X/ }% c. R  E

7.2    Before test shall check the specimen automatically-moving system, whether or not it is normal.

  如果试验不能在完整的样品上进行,可以从中切取适当的一块。除非在相关规范中另行规定,试验在一个样品上进行。如对试验结果有疑问,对另外两个样品进行试验。

      在开始试验前,样品、白色松木板和绢纸在15°C ~ 35°C的气氛中存储24h.
$ _6 f; J+ N# O; }4 ~# }% g5.   试验步骤
4 T- a& H  y% ?7 c' C5.1    一块约10mm厚扁平光滑的白色松木板,覆盖有包装纸,放置在灼热丝前端作用于样品位置下方200+/-5mm 处。
0 Q6 g5 }- @. y$ e0 ]- O5.2    样品由样品夹定位,与灼热丝前端接触的样品表面处于垂直状态。保证灼热丝前端只能压进样品7mm。 $ B  c2 r  G- }; a
手动工具应设计成灼热丝应用1+/-0.2N 于样品上。  i  m& O% X4 C
5.3   接通电源开关。用可调钮设置灼热丝温度到规定值。当灼热丝温度到设定值后,保持60s,灼热丝可用于试验。
2 u# z+ l0 U/ q5.4    .灼热丝的应用时间应用计时器设置为30s,相关技术规范有另行规定的除外。8 U( }' O7 a5 u$ a% @8 z
5.5    样品移到与灼热丝前端接触,同时,将计时器开始记录30s时间., p% L$ Q) v4 q" Y
5.6    在灼热丝应用到样品30s后,把样品移回到左边。如果样品燃烧,则当火焰熄灭时,按下相关按钮,并注意观查和记录:( @0 ?: W; ^* X* o  W6 C
•    从灼热丝前端开始应用一直到样品点燃的时间间隔。

个人认为灼热丝试验还是比较好掌握的,它是燃烧试验的一种。$ W0 p, G+ n4 w: O7 v
我个人把燃烧试验分成了四种:
9 L3 I' D% [8 c( Q$ G, d燃烧试验、灼热丝试验、不良接触试验、针焰试验。
' J6 }, z* Y/ p7 s) Q1 J
& S$ P4 r. A5 a: M" O$ }3 B* D- L我自己还没有研究完呢,呵呵,等我把材料试验全部学习完了再跟大家交流。

我觉得材料试验是相对独*立的一块,可以从人员上、设备上、方法上、时间上、样品上等等都独*立出来单独进行,与其它试验并行处理。 呵呵,这一特点也许能为管理省点心力吧。
