material and dimensions – for example, copper or steel pipe of standard size and provided with standard * y$ ~6 a# E. f- B& Ufittings might be considered to have adequate strength.0 }+ {' ~, H0 b* S3 z
29.5 A pressure vessel bearing the ASME code inspection symbol (²H², ²M², ²S², or ²U²) is considered3 }8 o9 J* w H# }
to comply with the requirement in 29.3 if the vessel is marked with a value of working pressure not less % V: p3 E+ B' s: \than that to which it is subject during normal or abnormal operation. " b' C9 K; u9 [( t29.6 If a test is necessary to determine whether a part complies with the requirement in 29.3, two samples: E' z% k8 i9 o! [) o
of the part are to be subjected to a hydrostatic-pressure test. Each sample is to be filled with water as to ) T" l1 ?" h" Z) C4 D% sexclude air and is to be connected to a hydraulic pump. The pressure is to be raised gradually to the2 [$ k" b0 ]3 c
specified test value and is to be held at that value for 1 minute. The results are not acceptable if either : r: u: V' q( ]- Bsample bursts or leaks, except as indicated in 29.7.* z3 A* L: d3 y n3 z! m
29.7 Leakage at a gasket during the hydrostatic-pressure test is not unacceptable unless it occurs at a 8 u, a3 ^( e2 Q1 X0 Npressure 40 percent or less of the required test value. : `' [) M, B3 W29.8 A means for relieving pressure shall be provided for all parts in which pressure might be generated( Z1 L/ q+ @$ U7 i( i7 R4 K
in the event of fire. - K B0 G( K; D& v4 C29.9 Pressure-relief devices (see 29.15), fusible plugs, soldered joints, nonmetallic tubing, or other, w7 M2 l, O, m
pressure-relief means or the equivalent may be employed to comply with the requirements in 29.8. 7 J9 F1 h2 a- a- _: W& T3 l5 l% O29.10 There shall be no shut-off valve between the pressure-relief means and the parts that it is intended/ a! |! W$ n0 d6 {8 s

29.11 A vessel having an inside diameter of more than 3 inches (76.2 mm) and subject to air or steam 2 w" \ Z# ^+ I3 ]$ p9 Npressure generated or stored within the appliance shall be protected by a pressure-relief device. $ x4 d1 x+ ?, h29.12 The start-to-discharge pressure setting of the pressure-relief device shall not be higher than the" u- _& H7 M6 S+ E" Y
working pressure marked on the vessel. The discharge rate of the device shall acceptably relieve the! ] O. Q: X5 x& n+ |
pressure. $ k' h; J; w# E* J% y* Q/ N% P29.13 A pressure-relief device shall comply with all four of the following: * \0 O- ]* P; ^! g, Da) Shall be connected as close as possible to the pressure vessel or parts of the system that it 0 E2 L: m9 K8 C1 l$ H( p% Jis intended to protect;1 p8 {# r" r, C# M$ @. v0 q+ ]; Q" t$ s
b) Shall be installed so that it is readily accessible for inspection and repair and cannot be ; p- Y1 p- w) V- d: areadily rendered inoperative; 1 O( J' r3 s' kc) Shall have its discharge opening located and directed so that the risk of scalding is reduced 4 [7 G0 C0 u3 z+ ]4 O* ito a minimum; and , G, i, ]( y$ U& r5 Ud) Shall have its discharge opening located and directed so that operation of the device does+ b/ ~# G, `0 i% D
not deposit moisture on bare live parts or on insulation or components affected detrimentally by 4 k9 D, ^+ j" Smoisture.& ?' H* C- g' i% P+ Q
29.14 A pressure-relief device having an adjustable setting shall be judged on the basis of its maximum % w' t r1 Y2 Q q- ]( q; s" q" u! _setting unless the adjusting means is sealed at a lower setting. ( W% p2 o8 E. O( L29.15 A pressure-relief device is considered to be a pressure-actuated valve or rupture member intended 2 t) W4 q7 U l& vto relieve excessive pressures automatically.
